Originally a revenue house, «Blinovsky Arcade» gets its name from a renowned family — the Blinov brothers, extremely wealthy Nizhny Novgorod industrialists and merchants.
Back in the day, «Blinovsky Arcade» was a major shopping center in the city, frequented by the high society.
The most unusual story happened on November 06, 1901, when a banquet was held in a restaurant located here to mark the farewell of Maxim Gorky, first to Crimea for treatment, and then to exile in Arzamas. The famous writer read his new pamphlet and then an agitated crowd left the restaurant together with Gorky and followed him all the way to the train station. This is considered to be the first ever fully-fledged political demonstration in Nizhny Novgorod.
The building today is home to various organizations, while the attic space is taken up by artist studios.
