The building of the Nizhny Novgorod House of Architects used to be the residence of titular councilor Porfiry Grigoriev where many distinguished guests were received, including Taras Shevchenko, a Ukrainian poet who lived here for a year, or Alexandre Dumas père, who stayed in the apartment of the director of a shipping company.
Rebuilt in 1973, it is now the House of Architects where exhibitions, discussions, seminars and workshops are regularly held. It is here that the results of the Nizhny Novgorod Architectural Rating are summarized. Here you can study archival documents on the design of historical buildings and sites, see the original drawings by famous architects, works authored by young urban planners, take part in discussions or get involved in development of a project. You can grab a coffee in the Architect Café, which has magnificent views, or browse books in the local bookstore.
