This small cinema on the city’s main pedestrian precinct is a paradise for Nizhny Novgorod cinephiles. Though generally considered a children’s cinema, Orlenok's billing can often include art house as part of the Real Cinema project, or a retrospective of Pedro Almodóvar or Aleksei German Sr, or a short films festival, or the best documentaries.
The cinema is housed in a historic building designed by architect Fyodor Schechtel and built in 1912.
It's sold out quite often, so if you could not get tickets, don't worry and have a seat in the lobby among the tropical plants, get a milkshake at the local café, or check out some of the regular art exhibitions. Orlenok has now become one of the most successful regional art-house platforms in Russia.
