One of Nizhny Novgorod’s most important industrial facilities is the Gorky Automobile Plant known as GAZ, which was founded in 1932 and remains one of the largest automobile plants in the whole of Russia. This three-story museum brings you the history and achievements of GAZ. Authentic vintage cars, including the famous GAZ-AA truck (polutorka, lit. ’one-and-a halfer’, referring to its carrying capacity of 1.5 tons) and Chaika limousine, which was only enjoyed by the top of the Soviet hierarchy, are the most interesting part of the exhibition. The museum uses VR technology, which literally brings the exhibits to life. A separate part of the exhibition tells the story of Sotsgorod, Nizhny Novgorod's residential district that was built specifically for GAZ employees. Have a look at all generations of Volga passenger cars, starting with the symbol of the Khrushchev Thaw — GAZ-21 or wear a VR helmet and get inside the workshop next to the assembly line. The educational platform will let you explore many automotive careers.
