The Zhdanov Public Park was conceived in the 1920s in parallel with the construction of the Palace of Culture (recreational center) of the Krasnoye Sormovo Shipyard as there was a pressing need for a park like this in the industrial district of Sormovo. Italian, English and French formal garden techniques are apparent here.
Relict pines make up about half of the trees in the park. There are also avenues of linden, elm and birch trees as well as a grove of oaks. The park has the Trud Stadium, Russky Lyod (Russian Ice) indoor ice rink, Madagascar and Limpopo zoos, a swan pond, cafés and amusement rides.
In summer, an aqua park opens, offering extreme and family slides, swimming pools, hot tubs and a chill-out area with 700 sun loungers. The Madagascar Adventure Park will treat you to climbing walls, trampolines and a high ropes course. In winter, a winter holiday complex is opened in the park, with a skating rink and an entertainment program.
