Chronologically, this is the third Catholic church in Nizhny Novgorod.
The first one was built in 1861 and destroyed in the 1930s; the construction of the second one began in 1914 and it was closed in 1929.
The current Church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Virgin is located on the site of Schelokov Mansion, a historical and architectural landmark. When you take a walk along Zvezdinka Street, make sure to visit this quiet spot. The parishioners take good care of this area — there are flowers and decorated window shutters, making you feel as though you were in Italy.
On Sundays, guided tours of the church are given to everyone interested.
