The building of the former Garantiya Bank (currently Sarovbusinessbank) is an outstanding example of the Nizhny Novgorod architectural school, which became the talk of the town in the 1990s.
It was designed by the Kharitonov & Pestov architectural studio. Yevgeny Pestov and Alexander Kharitonov were given the Russian National Award for this project. Built in 1995, this little coffret house, as though coming straight from fairy tales, is one of the finest and most interesting specimens of the 20th-century Russian architecture. The building has a rounded shape and a keyhole-shaped entrance. Its façade has painted decorations inspired by the Russian folklore. Next to it is the other bank building, ultra-modern and nicknamed Titanic for resembling the ship.
