Formerly an armory, the Kremlin Arsenal was in a deplorable condition for a long while; in the 18th century it was used as a munitions storage, but in the 21st century it has become a contemporary art space. Today the Arsenal is a branch of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, and if you are at all interested in contemporary art, this is definitely the place to visit.
You should consult the current events guide as there are no permanent exhibitions here. The left wing hosts concerts while the local media library has a wide selection of art albums, exhibition catalogs and various culturological literature that you can study totally free of charge. The Arsenal has a café and «The Vasari» bookstore, selling not only books but also pretty souvenirs of Nizhny Novgorod.
Outside the Arsenal there is a bench, which is the longest and widest in Nizhny Novgorod.
